Graduate In Your Best Makeup Posted on 21 May 11:54

Congratulations! If you are reading this, then you or someone you know is probably graduating—and that is a wonderful thing worth celebrating!

Whether you are graduating yourself, or you are planning on attending a graduation soon, chances are you will be taking pictures to capture the moment. And that means your makeup needs to last through the day (and the happy tears!).

We have some tips for how to achieve flawless graduation-ready makeup that will hold up in whatever weather conditions you are facing:

1.Choose your look—do you want Instagram-worthy makeup or a fresh, clean look? Before we get into the basics of keeping your makeup in-place and smudge-proof all day, you have to decide just what the aesthetic goal of your makeup will be.

2.Lock it down—make your makeup stay in one (or a few) of these steps. Prep the skin with a fail-proof primer, one you have used in the past and know help your makeup stay where it should. If you don’t have any such primer already on hand, some popular options are Smashbox’s Photo Finish Primer or Tarte’s Clean Slate Poreless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer. Next, consider the product line up for the day. All your products should emphasize their staying power, especially your base makeup and eye makeup. Look for no smudge eyeliners and opt for the water-proof mascara formulas. Regardless of if you choose a “slay” or a “fresh” makeup look, it is a smart idea to finish your makeup with a setting spray. Popular options such as Urban Decay’s All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray or Mac’s Prep + Prime Fix + Finishing Mist will help prevent your look from budging.

3.Prepare for all weather—weather can be unpredictable and this is not the day to be at the mercy of it. It is best to be prepared for the most probable types of weather in your area by using or bringing some items. If where you are graduating is hot (or you are just prone to getting oily throughout the day), bring some blotting papers with you in your purse or pocket. Likewise, if it is sunny and you are graduating outdoors, make sure you put sunscreen on your body and face underneath your makeup! If you are graduating in a rainy environment, bring with you a mini umbrella; and if you are having a snowy, winter graduation, bring packets of self-heating hand warmers to keep your hands ready to accept that diploma!
